Thing 2: Notes
Lib 2.0 = participatory role for users. Lib 2.0 phrase coined by Michael Casey on his blog Library Crunch.
Libraries no longer have monopoly on information. The library is everywhere--barrier free and participatory.
Libraries must allow access to users whereever they are: home, work, commuting, school, library, etc. Libraries must also meet users wherever they are: IM, MySpace, Facebook and use wikis, blogs for collaboration with users and colleagues.
Information flow:
library > user
user > library
library > library
user > user
(Observation: New flows are user to library and user to user)
User participation via assisning tags and keywords, scholarly commentary, reviews.
Lib 2.0 skeptics--Steve Lawson. Lib 2.0 provides opportunity for hate speech to appear on library websites.
